SkyLab Industries

Skylab was launched at the beginning of the year 2001, and is based in Houston, Texas. I've kept and raised fish for over 20 years and have a particular interest in African cichlids. With the 1990's grew my interest in saltwater fish and building my own filters for them. I think it was actually the outrageous price tags on such equipment that initially spurred my interest in building my own. Why did devices that seemed so simple have to be so expensive?! They don't.

Skylab's mission is to supply quality products at prices significantly lower than competitors'. We've taken several measures to accomplish this goal. The design of Skylab wet/dry filters is focused on the primary purpose of a wet/dry: to provide biological filtration by means of water coming into contact with biological media (bio-media). Therefore it makes sense that the more bio-media a filter contains, the more efficiently it performs, and the larger the aquarium it can support. Skylab wet/dry filters lack all of the extra compartments and gadgets that you see with the competitors. These 'extras' do two things: 1) compromise space that could have otherwise been used for bio-media, and 2) increase cost! Each of our filters is designed to use the maximum available space for containing bio-media, the whole purpose of a wet/dry, right? Eliminating the unnecessary items keeps costs down. Besides, I feel that many of the extra gadgets are more of marketing devices than filtration devices. Keep it simple and efficient......and inexpensive!!

Skylab has also broken away from making filters out of acrylic and has gone back to the hobby's roots by using the more traditional glass, which does not warp like acrylic can. The reason for this is very simple: cost. The cost of acrylic is several times that of glass. Most people's only real concern here anyway is the cost of shipping, so I've solved that problem for everyone: We pay the cost of shipping for you! We also pay the cost to insure each package through the delivery service to guarantee its safe arrival.
